Hi there! I have posted about this in the past, but I wanted more feedback about it.

I have a moderate-severe stutter. It hinders a few things (being on book, very few calling mishaps), but my general performance as a stage manager has not been effected too severely by the impediment.

What would you think if you a met a stage manager with a stutter? Problem or no?

Employment / Social media links on website
« on: Oct 25, 2014, 08:20 pm »
Hello!

I am in the process of creating my website, and was wondering what opinions were on posting social media links to Twitter, Instagram, ect.    I am a soon-to-be graduate hoping to find work.

My reason for having social media on my website is to showcase my personality, since stage management is such a personable career. But I also understand the opposing argument, which is that it can make me appear unprofessional.

Here's the site: www.margaretAheffernan.com

Thank you!!

Hi all,

I am wondering how other people share documents between yourself and your ASMs. In the past, I have created a Dropbox folder where all paperwork is stored for the full stage management team to access. The downside to this is if one ASM does not have Microsoft Word, and if something is updated they need to reupload the document and delete the old one.

I have also used Google Drive as an ASM, which was great for myself and the other ASM to work on documents at the same time as things changed. What was NOT great about Google Drive was the formatting issues...I like everything to look the same from document to document and it's hard to format in general with Google documents.

How do you share paperwork within the stage management team?

Hello!

I am working with a cast of 45 for a college production of Sweeney Todd. As we all know, there are several lines throughout the full cast numbers that are assigned to people in the ensemble.

How does everyone keep track of who says what? Is there a way that seems to work best for you?

Thanks!

Probably a silly question, but: How does the stage manager run a design meeting?

I have so far been a part of three design meetings (I am a college stage manager), and each time I felt rather unprepared to run the meeting as much as I did. But, as I thought I should, I went into it with the mentality that it was a meeting for the designers to collaborate (as opposed to a production meeting).

So, I was wondering how everyone else went about attending/running a design meeting, and if there is a specific way to do it.

Thanks!

Hi there, I posted this a while ago, but wanted more feedback!

I am a college Stage Manager, still very early in my career. I have a moderate-severe stutter. It hinders a few things (being on book, general speaking communication), but my general performance as an SM has not been effected too severely by the impediment. My faculty and directors do not know I have a stutter, and most people don't know I do until I point it out.

What are your opinions on my future in stage management?

Thanks!

Hi there! I'm a freshman Stage Management student and am Assistant Stage Managing my first show starting in a few weeks. I know what to be expecting for the most part, but I'm wondering what kind of "book" I should be keeping. Of course I will have my script, schedule and contact information. All the basics. But should I keep a binder like I would if I were stage managing? Or should my binder be set up differently? Thanks!

Tools of the Trade / Backstage pants
« on: Oct 01, 2012, 11:34 pm »
Hello all! I'm a college stage management student and looking to invest in a good pair of black, backstage pants. I'm wanting a pair of black cargo pants, but they are hard to find for short women because they are usually carried in the men's section. Plus, I'm in college and without transportation, so I've been trying to look online. Does anyone (women especially) have any suggestions? Of either what kind of pants/where to look? Thanks!

The Green Room / Director Gossip

I am working on a community theatre production of Bye Bye Birdie- it's great fun!  To try to make a long story short, here is my dilemma:

The show is half adults, half teenagers.  I am a teenager myself, and am friends with a few of the cast members.  One of the teens was talking to me about how she is frustrated with the director, and how our choreographer and music director are as well.  It is very obvious that people of all ages are having a hard time with his organization technique.

Although I may not completely agree with the director myself, I have been staying a mutual party when people talk to me about it.

Should I not give them an opinion, or try to "talk up" the director?

Thanks!
