Hi Folks-

I know this may seem silly, but does anyone have any tips or tricks to such a situation. Currently, our August: Osage County set design does not fit in the space we will be rehearsing in. I absolutely hate to truncate the design, but CAN make it fit should I decrease the size of everything 25%. Thoughts?

I recently had this conversation with a group of stage managers, and every single answer was different. From headsets to pencils to spike tape, what one item would you choose to describe to another the job of a stage manager? I said headset, but would love to hear what others think!!

Stage Management: Plays & Musicals / FORMS: Contact Sheets
« on: Aug 25, 2009, 10:48 pm »
Usually I only have one contact sheet, but I recently read in a thread that some of create both an "actors" version and a "sm" version. For my normal contact sheet I include name, role, home phone, cell phone, and email. What is the difference between the two and what do you include in a "sm" version? Thanks! ;D

Just wondering, does the Production Supervisor stay with the show while it is running? Thanks!

I was just given a lineset chart from our theatres technical director. What exactly is a lineset schedule and what does it mean when it says "track type". For example, one track type is unibeam? Thanks a lot, I really appreciate it.

College and Graduate Studies / College Production Book Excerpts
« on: Feb 23, 2009, 05:58 pm »
Hi all!

I'm currently a junior in high school and I am looking around at various different colleges. I am extremely interested in Depaul and I would love the oppurtunity to recieve and education from the professionals at that school. Finished with SAT's and everything else, I am now starting with my college portfolio. I've read around the site that it is a good idea just to keep excerpts from various shows and that is what I have decided to do. However, I am not completely positive of what to include. Any advice is greatly appreciated! Thanks  :)

Stage Management: Other / Stage Management For Ice Show
« on: Feb 17, 2009, 10:30 pm »
Hello, I have just been hired as a stage manager for a new ice show at my local amusement park for the upcoming summer. As an assistant stage manager, I am responsible for the calling of the show. However, the entire show is on a time code or time track and is synched with all lighting and sound effects. For those of you with experience, what is a stage management position like and what duties does the job entail? My manager was a stage manager on Royal Caribbean for an ice show, and said it will be very similiar. He will be sharing this information with me at a later date (the park doesn't open til June) but I want to do some research and be fully prepared for my first day of work. I have alot of stage management experience in theatre, but this is the first gig I have applied for that isn't directly involved with theatre. Thanks a lot, I really appreciate it!  :)

Sincerely,

Rebels

Hey Guys, I know that alot of stage managers have different opinions and all but as a stage manager myself I have a goal to be a stage manager on Broadway. I wouldnt mind if I was an ASM or PSM (I prefer ASMing) I just really want to accomplish this one day. I was just wondering how one goes about applying and getting a job. I will soon be going to college for stage management, and I just want to gather as much info as possible. I've looked on playbill.com and backstage.com but you never see anything for Broadway productions. And I fully understand that you need to be extremely talented, but it doesn't seem as if age is a factor. I recently shadowed A Chorus Line on Broadway and the entire stage management team was young. Two of the stage managers were fresh out of college. So overall, I was just wondering how I could one day become a Broadway Stage Manager? How do you apply? How does everything work? Thanks alot, I really appreciate it!

Employment / Making money with AEA?
« on: Jul 10, 2008, 05:24 pm »
What is the minimum salary for stage managers in AEA? Are you paid weekly, and what do you do if you dont have a current job? How do you make money? Is finding equity jobs difficult?

I know these questions may sound stupid, but I am an aspiring stage manager in high school planning to go to college for stage management. My parents dont believe that it would be a stable job, and I need some information to back of my plan.  :) Thanks alot guys!
