Stage Management: Other / I have an ASM... now what?
« on: Apr 17, 2011, 06:38 pm »
So, I've been managing a traveling choir for a while now (about 50 gigs a year various venues and such) and I've been doing all the SM work by myself.  I was recently given a ASM.  My problem is that I'm not really sure what do with her.  She's competent, and driven, but I've got most of the rehearsal and show work down to where only I am needed.   So what what should I do?

Stage Management: Plays & Musicals / SHOWS: Doubt
« on: Oct 30, 2009, 03:17 pm »
Hey everyone,

Sorry I've been gone for a bit, but I'm back now.

I just signed on to SM Doubt.  Seems pretty straight forward on first blush, any pitfalls or problems I should know about.

Stage Management: Plays & Musicals / SCENERY: Guillotine
« on: May 21, 2008, 10:08 am »
So, I'm SM'ing a production of Scarlet Pimpernel, and during the production meeting the Director looked at me and said I don't know where to get a Guillotine... like I do.  Anyone?

Stage Management: Plays & Musicals / SHOWS: Wait Until Dark

I'm stage managing a production of Wait Until Dark next year and I'm wondering if any of you have had experience with the show?  Pitfalls?  Disasters in the making?

Sorry guys and I'm pretty sure this will be moved or removed but the company is kinda desperate and I have to go for it.

Open Call Auditions for DreamSpinners “Jekyll & Hyde” will be held June 12th with call backs June 13th. All parts are open, and ages 18 and up are welcome. This show will not be a part of our children's summer theater program and no participation fee will be collected. Rehearsals will be held during the evenings.

You may prepare a song of your choice, or a song from the show with the exception of "Confrontation". You may bring sheet music or a CD to audition with. If you are singing something from the show, you do not need the music...I have it already. Singing "with the vocals" is not permitted.

Bring a resume and head shot (if you have one) and a complete list of all conflicts. I will work around conflicts IF I know about them in advance.

"Jekyll and Hyde" performances are August 1st, 2nd 3rd, and 4th 2007 at The Grand Theater in Williamstown.

SMNetwork Archives / Screwdriver Recommendation
« on: Feb 21, 2007, 02:37 pm »
This is really an LD question but since there’s no ldnetwork.org bear with me.

I'm looking to get some good insulated screwdrivers for my light kit.  I've done a bunch of searches but looking at pictures of them on the internet is a lot different than using them in the field.  Does anyone have some success or horror stories from all the LD's out there?

Ok, I'm know it's not an SM question but you all have a knowledgebase that I can't help but tap.  I'm looking for a quick and easy and hopefully cheap way to pump scents into the house.  One scent in particular, pine.

Right now the front runner is a case of glade scented plug ins.

Tools of the Trade / Trees on stage
« on: Jan 09, 2007, 08:36 am »
Design question:

I'm directing a production of the Crucible and I'd like to have trees on the stage.  I'm wondering what pitfalls I'm not thinking about with using live trees?   Also any US Garden centers that you know of that would willing to donate them?

Two quick questions, whats the consenus on spike tape color,  everyone use different colors or does everyone use the same color?

and

If you use different colors do you split it by scene or by piece?  In other words act 1 scene 1 is the blue spikes or the sofa goes on the blue spikes?

Stage Management: Plays & Musicals / CALLING: Calling Mics
« on: Sep 25, 2006, 10:04 am »
I've always wondered, do you guys and gals call body mic cues or just sound effects?   In other words do you call goes on body mics when actors are wearing them or do you let the sound engineer take it?   I've done it both ways and it's worked and not worked both ways, I was just wondering what the consensus was.
