The Green Room / Reading Plays
« on: Jun 30, 2011, 08:56 am »
Hi Everyone,
I'm setting a goal for myself over the next year (and by year I mean August to August - After 16+ years of school, I still run on an academic calender) to read at least one play a week.  Not since college have I read a play that I wasn't either working on on considering working on and I would like to change that.  So I would like your opinions.  What plays do you think are important for all theatre people to have read, or what are some of your favorite plays that you have read?

Thanks for the input!

Employment / Leaving a job
« on: Aug 20, 2008, 06:11 pm »
Hi.  I've always valued the information I've optained on this forum, and I would like to get others opinions on my current situation.

I'm currently an intern (even though intern really isn't the best description for my job) at one of the largest community theatres in the nation.  I am just begining my second season with the company, and I am considering leaving.  I have alot of reasons for wanting to leave ranging from hating the upcoming season, not liking the area of the country the company is located in, to purely not wanting to be a stage manager anymore.  I basically don't think I am doing what is best for me at this time in my life.

I guess what I would like peoples opinions on is how detrimental will this be to my career.  I don't plan on stage managing again, at least not for awhile, but I do want to stay in theatre.  I'm hoping to work on my lighting and sound design portfolio the rest of the season and hopefully go to grad school for that.

I keep going back and forth on whether to stay or whether to leave and what the best decision would be, and would love some of everyones input.

Tools of the Trade / Spike Tape on Marley Floors
« on: Aug 03, 2007, 11:34 am »
At the Theatre I am currently working at, all the rehearsal rooms have Black Marley Floors.  We are finding that after we pull up a taped out set that the tape is leaving a mark on the floor, almost as if it is pulling color out of the Marley.  We have tried both cloth spike tape and electrical tape and are still getting the same results.  Anyone have any suggestions?

Hi Everyone,
I was wondering if anyone still uses the old cut and paste method of putting together their prompt scripts?  I personally don't like this method, but with the gigs I'm doing this summer I was given very poorly copied scripts and it ended up being the best method.  The real question is if you use this method, what kind of glue do you use?  I tried just an elmers glue stick, but my pages are just falling apart.

Thanks,
-Josh
