Employment / Re: Program Bios
« on: Jan 19, 2016, 01:59 pm »
Short, sweet and to the point make for my favorite bios to read when I see a show. If I am more curious about the person, I'll look them up on the interwebs when I get home, (see also the forum concerning the importance of online presence.) That said I usually say a quick blurb of how happy I am to work at the theatre producing the show, and another recent credit if I enjoyed working at the previous place because that could get that other theatre some exposure to someone who may not have heard of them before.

Introductions / Guten Tag Yall!
« on: Jan 14, 2016, 04:28 pm »
I have been on the forum for a few years now, but mostly read and did not participate. My new years resolution this year is to try and participate more and become more social in the network, (I usually just sit in the corner and observe.)

A little about me:

Recently joined AEA while working on a production of "The Behavior of Broadus" with Capital Stage in Sacramento, CA and landed my first LORT PSM gig at Center Rep in Walnut Creek, CA for a production of "Art".

I've worked in various SM positions from PA to PSM in numerous fields from Dance, Musical Theatre, Plays, and Operas.

Toured for four months with Barter Theatre's production of "Civil War Voices".

Lots of Carpentry, Electrics, Painting, and Sound Experience.

Not work related, but I ran my first marathon in October and plan on running at least one this year.

Looking forward to chatting more soon!

Employment / Re: Worst Job Offers?
« on: Jan 14, 2016, 04:13 pm »
A few years back I was hired as a resident SM for a theatre for youth company in the bay area. The pay was decent enough but as with most gigs there was that "other duties as assigned" part of the letter of agreement. This was before I was union and some of these duties included house managing for 250 screaming 1st-3rd graders, building maintenance, and my favorite part of all, scrubbing toilets. Don't get me wrong I am all for a 40 hour work week, but when I am told, "no you're not allowed to leave, we can find things for you to do for the next two hours," I am most certainly not a fan. It didn't help that rehearsal and the time I was supposed to be there coincided with heavy commuter traffic, (no joke sometimes it took me three hours to drive 26 miles.) Luckily I am not there any more.
