Hi, thanks for all the answers.

No, it wasn't at The Falcon.

It was a film producer who decided to do a musical, but had never worked in theatre before. I just thought it was odd he needed a hard copy of the things he already had a digital copy of in both email and the dropbox folder i sent as a zip to him. Eh, well now I know. Thanks.

Hi!
I recently did an AEA (HAT contract) show where the Producer told me he didn't need anything handed over when the show ended. Then 2 days after it ended, he asked for all of my paperwork. I was a bit thrown back, I had no problem making him a copy of the calling script (it is the producer's property after all), but he wanted a copy of EVERYTHING. I asked if we could go over what he needed a copy of (I like to keep the originals for my own records), but he said no I need to give him a copy of everything I had all the way down to the actor's measurement sheets. I was just wondering what other SMs turn in if a Producer asks them to turn in their book. In my past experience, on the rare case the Producer actually asks for stuff it's usually just the calling and/or blocking script. Thanks for the feedback!

PS-this was not for a touring show, just a regular musical.

Do y'all find it hard to stay focused on watching the show during long runs? During an extended run whenever there are a few pages of dialogue without cues or minimal cues I tend to find myself peeking down at the audience or chatting with the ASM or Board Ops (I know it's a really bad habit). Any tricks to keep yourself focused on what's happening onstage?

Employment / Invoices
« on: Jun 28, 2010, 04:27 pm »
Hey guys,
I just finished working a fringe fest and the producer asked me to send him an invoice. I have one I made 2 years ago but it's a really basic excel file. Does anyone have a really nice and professional looking invoice? Thanks  :)

2 of my favorites:

How many method actors does it take to screw in a light bulb?
Zero, you are the light bulb

How many set designers does it take to screw in a light bulb?
Does it have to be a light bulb?

Employment / Working in LA
« on: Mar 26, 2009, 07:28 pm »
Hi Everyone,
I'm a young SM who at the moment is non-union and has been Stage Managing since high school. I have been living in Los Angeles for almost 2 years now. I moved out here after college to work in film, but missed theatre so much and about 5 months ago went back to it in hope to earn a living SM-ing. It's really really rough. I'm just getting started professionally and haven't had any guidance about doing this in LA (or anywhere actually). So I have a few questions that I would love an honest answer to.

1) Is it possible to earn a decent living working as a Stage Manager in LA?
2) If so how?
3) If not where should I move to have a better chance?
And most importantly....
4) Is it really possible to earn a decent living as a Stage Manager at all or will I be 45 and still teaching yoga part-time waiting for the next gig?

I know it's a lot to ask but I really would appreciate answers. Thanks!
~Cate
