College and Graduate Studies / Wayne State University???

Question for all:

I am a stage manager based in Phoenix, but looking to move to the Indiana/Illinois/ Michigan/Ohio/Kentucky area.

I’m considering grad school because I am basically self taught and while I’ve never had any negative feedback, I crave some instruction that I never received at an undergrad level.

The only thing is, I work Equity regularly. Low level LORT mostly, but it pays the bills.

It seems odd to leave that to go back to school.

That said, I’m pretty sure I want to, so my real question is…

Of the SM MFAs I’ve found in that area there is really just Champaign Urbana and Wayne State University.

I'm looking into both.

I must say, despite it’s lack of a big name Wayne State looks very appealing.

Anyone know anything about that school that might help?

Any advice or suggestions?

I'm currently in my last semester of grad school at Wayne State University in Detroit-- it's a 7 season rotating rep.  3 year program.  If you're interested in more information, let me know-- I'll be happy to fill you in.  I've enjoyed myself here and learned a great deal, but I will say it is not for everyone here.

~Nikki :)

I'd like to get in touch with you more directly (email would be nice) to talk about this school.

I am very interested in applying.

If you would be so kind, my email is PSMREL@hotmail.com

I'm finishing up my Senior year at Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan.  We don't really have a Stage Management program.  You be getting a Design/Technology degree specializing in SM.  However, we need Stage Managers anyway because between our Bonstelle Theatre (Undergrade Theatre), Studio Theatre (Undergrade Theatre) and Hilberry Theatre (Graduate Theatre), we do 14 to 17 productions a year between all three theatres.  That is more than any other college or university in the USA. We also have the only Graduate reprotory theatre in the USA. Believe it or not but I have learned a lot while I have been there and there are alway student productions to work on as well besides any of the Bonstelle or Studio season productions too.

You would be working in the Bonstelle and Studio, which are wonderful environments to work in, especially the Studio which seats 110. And depending how you do on your first ASM assignment, you would most likely become PSM for one of the Studio Theatre Productions and then up to the Bonstelle.

Check out our link:  http://www.theatre.wayne.edu/index2.php

Hope this helps!

I'm looking into Wayne State myself as a Stage Manager.

The website claims that there is  a stage management program and gives a lot of details on it.

Can you clarify?

Also, I'd appreciate the chance to email you directly or here about your experience at the school.

Any info about the program or your experience would be greatly appreciated.
