Stage Management: Other / Re: Award Show

I think I can talk my director into renting some lighting trees, and I like the idea of shooting some lights on up the wall.

Stage Management: Other / Award Show
« on: Apr 21, 2007, 05:21 pm »
So, my high school has an awards 'show' coming up. Last year this was at Reform Theological Center, very nice and professional. This year, we have to have it in our gym, which sucks. I've got 150 linear feet of pipe & drape, a video screen, some carpet to overlay the gym floor, and about 500 bleacher seats. Any suggestions to make this rather crappy awards venue look nice? Our gym is great, for things a gym should be used for, not for an awards show...

Tools of the Trade / Re: Vista and Microsoft 2007

I will be avoiding any further Microsoft products. My current computer is a Dell, and I use Thunderbird, Firefox and Google for just about everything. In the next couple of months I will be switching over to Apple, I'm just sick and tired of Microsoft, and Vista doesn't make things much better, it's just pretty.

Tools of the Trade / Re: Google Groups?

Yes, it is very similar to Yahoo Groups. Right now, I'm testing Google Groups just with the techs for the talent show, in hopes for use in college, or to hand off to my successor in high school. I have faith in my techs, but yes, I can see my actors forgetting to check up on it.

Tools of the Trade / Google Groups?

Has anyone here used Google Groups? I'm using it right now for my talent show. It seems like a good way to commicate with techs and actors. It's a small forum, you can create custom pages, and upload files. I'll get back to you all after the show.

Tools of the Trade / Re: What goes inside a SM Kit?

...and alas, my lack of a kit has has come back and bit me in the butt. Countless times I needed a flashlight, pen, or tape and had to stop what I was doing and go find it. I also had an actress cut herself onstage and sure enough, not a first-aid kit to be found anywhere, my days of kit-less shows have officially come to an end.

Yeah, I've been pretty bad during my current show about keeping a kit around. I was ok until this week (week of show) where I've been yelling across the room to my lighting guy "Sharpie!" and then watching said sharpie sail through the air to me.

I'm new and don't know who the youngest is around here, but I'm in my last high school production as a student, and am in a relationship with an actress. Because of the fact it is a private high school and she is younger, there is so much to think about as in what we can and can't do. I think PDA is unprofessional during a show or rehearsal regardless of the situation, but that's just me, seriously, I'm sure people can find a better time.
