Here at Syracuse University we're in the middle of our run of Sweeney right now, I know our props master did a lot of research before deciding to make them, but I know the process he decided on is decently simple, and the results are great.  I can see if I can get more info from him as well as the name of the person he spoke to when we were thinking of renting them.

Wow....I just saw this and am shocked....
I interned with Efren Delgadillo, the TD last summer, and got to know Casseli and the rest of the production staff, so it just hits home really oddly to see them terminated, especially since they have done a lot for the theatre....

And even though the workshop will be losing money from RENT when it closes, they've mounted some stuff this past season (like BECKETT SHORTS which sold out every performance) which have been doing pretty well.....

...I do not however have anything intelligent to say on a stage management front about this.

My lovely boyfriend purchased me the makita 18v lithium ion for my last birthday, and I must say, it's incredible.  It weighs far less than the dewalt 14s and 18s which makes it much easier if you're using it at weird angles or above your head, plus it does have the very helpful light on the end of it.  The biggest plus I've found also with the new lithiumion batteries is that aside from being lighter than the standard ones, they also charge in around 15 minutes which is great.  Definitely one I would recommend if you're willing to make the investment.

Most of my computer use comes from the hours upon hours I spend tweaking my forms. It's kind of a guilty pleasure. I love improving my designs for my forms. It's the inner-geek coming out.

I agree...it's one of the best things making nice forms that also work well......

My ASM is responsible for creating props presets. Is that what you're talking about?

It's been a long tech.

Yup, that was what I was referring to.  Having prop and set preset checklists as well as checklists for things before and after the show is probably necessary for an ASM

So randomly a recent graduate from Yale's MFA SM program just came and talked to the SMs here at 'Cuse and he was raving about it and had a lot of our seniors thinking of applying to Yale.  One of the most positive things he had to say about it was the contacts and just the support system you get from it being Yale. 
He really enjoyed it.
Other than that, I don't have anything constructive to say.

I'm not sure if this is something inferred or not, but I would also suggest having the ASM take down blocking and also having Preset lists when the show is closer to production.  Scene breakdowns and Contact sheets as well.

Well, I'd been a performer since I was 6 and knew that I needed to have some invovlement in theatre in my life always, so in 8th grade I auditioned for a high school magnet drama program.  There, everyone was required to do some technical work aside from performing and I fell in love with building the sets and using power tools.  When one of the ASMs for the last show of the year dropped out because he got a job my best friend (the other ASM) told me to apply, so I did.
Fell in love with being on the management, SMed various one acts and other shows in high school.
Decided that there was no way I wanted to continue acting for my whole life since when I was performing in shows people either thought I was part of the management team, or I was just overly interested in it, and then starting looking for colleges with good technical theatre departments.
Lo and behold, I decided to apply to Syracuse for SM, and I'm currently loving it here as an SM major with a concentration in TDing.
And that's my story

If you would like I can send you a copy of the one I created for a class assignment for Spike Heels.  It's pretty basic, and doesn't have entrances, etc because we were doing those breakdowns seprately, but you can use it as a reference if you would like.

Also, there is no right or wrong way, just whatever is most efficient and helpful for you.

Of course it's ok if half the cast can't show up for dress rehearsal.
