Anyone have a copy of the Damn Yankees script in word or something else editable.  I had a pdf and it's killing me to retype it.

Thanks All!

This is so sad!  I played there for a week last fall, its a beautiful theatre!

Pack a hoodie, preferably a black one, or two.  I practically lived in mine for the last few years.  I would also suggest your own water bottle and one nice outfit to go out in.

The Green Room / Re: SMNetwork's Resident expert in...

I think I'd be the expert in romance novels or old BBC dramas.

Don't ask why, it just happened that way.

Matthew do you have an AD around that is noting on occasion as well?  Only getting out twice a month to note would be tough for me.

Do you have understudy rehearsal every week?  That sounds like a lot, but then again each show has its own needs.

Currently since I am in week sits I am able to get out twice a week to note and my dance captain gets out once a week to note.  When we were in split weeks and one nighters I was lucky to get out once a week.

Liz--

Congrats on the new job.  I have been on the road for three years and where I reside has mattered for some of my taxes and not for others.

With one company I paid my taxes to my home state, (IA, where my folks live, where I vote and where my drivers license is) and the company I worked for paid my portion of tax to the state where I was employed in (MD/NJ depending on the tour).  When it came time to file for my unemployment it was very easy, I just contacted my home state and they contacted MD and along came my check.

I have also been on a tour where we paid our taxes to each individual state we played (42 states!).  This created a bit of a nightmare at tax time.  I turned all of my W4s over to my accountant and he figured out where it was worth it for me to file and where it would cost me more to file.  This did create a bit of an issue when it came time to file for unemployment.  I had to contact NJ, where my employer was based out of and then NJ directed me elsewhere.  It was not ideal.

If you have a choice in how you pay your taxes, which you probably do not as most company's have a policy, I would vote for paying all of your taxes to your home state.  (There are a few exceptions to this rule, such as MA and CA.)  It just makes things easier when you need to file unemployment and do your taxes.

Feel free to send me a message if you would like to talk more about this.

Stage Management: Other / Re: Risk Assessment
« on: Jun 18, 2010, 01:41 pm »
I've dealt with this as a company manager before.  The tour I was working on had, had a lot of workers comp claims so a risk analyst from the insurance company came out to check and see how we were doing things and why there were so many claims.  Turned out we were doing things fine but dancers pull muscles and twist ankles frequently.

Brookelynn--

Great question.  I am on my third national tour and the third company in three years.  I sent my resume what felt like a million times before I got hired.

It isn't always easy to get on a tour.  I found the best thing to do is to send your resume.  There are quite a few companies that tour I'd start with, NetWorks Presentations, Phoenix Entertainment, Trokia, Big League and Work Light Productions.  Most of those company do non equity work,  but they occasionally do equity work.  Another thing to try is to shadow a show when it comes through town.  Or if a tour happens to be doing their technical rehearsals in your city being a PA for them is also a great way to make connections.   A lot of this hiring is based on who you know and being in the right place at the right time.

Best of luck!

I think this is a very interesting question posted.

In my experience it has mattered very little what school I went to or even that I continued on and got an MFA.  What has matter has been my abilities, experience and mostly attitude.

After landing your first job or two most people won't look at what school you went to.  With that in mind, I am a fan of not having student loans.  I am paying on mine and will continue to do so for some time.

Students and Novice Stage Managers / Re: SMing Rep
« on: Mar 04, 2010, 01:53 pm »
Last time I worked in Rep at a summer stock we had one PSM,  two stage managers and three assistants for three shows and three green shows.  The PSM was in charge of overall scheduling and in charge of the other stage managers.  We had a daily scheduling meeting to finalize rehearsal schedules and work through new conflicts.  The PSM was also in charge of setting tech schedules and days off and the like.  For me it was really interesting being part of such a large team of stage managers.  Each one of us did things differently, and had different styles, but we all had to produce the same paper work so it was easily read by everyone else in the company.  I felt like I had a large support system when I had things creep up and there was always someone to bounce an idea off of.

Best of luck in your summer experience and keep us posted on how it goes!

Mixed.  Cast and Band are non union, the crew is IATSE.

For me, I have always chosen not to drink before a show.  On my current gig, in the contract, there is a no drinking clause before a show or in between shows.  It is a hard rule for all of us, cast, crew, band, management.  No exceptions.

Students and Novice Stage Managers / Re: Blocking using a score
« on: Feb 22, 2010, 07:15 pm »
On my current project we have done the blocking and call script with the script and not the score.  In detailed instrumental selections we have used counts or the lyrics to the melody in italics to show that they aren't actually being sung.

In another production I have made a cut and pasted script of score and lines to help get me through, but that has been for calling and not for blocking.

Lucas--

First of all welcome to the boards!  As for tips, you're asking about a bunch of things and its a little hard to even know where to begin.  Do you have a more specific question for the boards?

A good place to start would be getting a clear understanding of your role as student technical director.  What are you responsible for and what is your role in the production.
