SM needed for ArtStream (DC area)
« on: Jul 11, 2014, 11:35 am »
ArtStream, Inc. is a regional nonprofit arts organization whose mission is to create artistic opportunities for individuals in communities traditionally underserved by the arts. We are currently seeking Stage Managers for our 2014-2015 Inclusive Theatre Company season. The Stage Manager (SM) supports the director in rehearsals and classes, both through creative input and administrative tasks. The SM also oversees the technical process by leading the crew, managing backstage, and calling the show. We are a growing organization and are looking to hire new and dedicated people.

About ArtStream
ArtStream is a consortium of professional artists whose purpose is to inspire and help heal through various art forms such as theatre, puppetry, music, and dance. We believe that the transformative power of the arts should be available to everyone, especially those who are challenged by disabilities or life circumstances. Our programs not only benefit the individuals involved, but also the community at large. More importantly, we have seen the power of the arts at work and are excited to spread the “magic.” It is the fervent mission of ArtStream to fill the gap in arts programming between what is currently being provided in these communities and what is needed. Please be sure to review our website before applying, at www.art- stream.org.

About Inclusive Theatre Companies
The companies (located in Arlington, VA and Montgomery County, MD) are made up of actors with and without cognitive disabilities. Each company is directed by a theatre professional who is trained and experienced in working with persons with disabilities. Throughout the rehearsal process, the company works together to generate ideas for an original script through group input and improvisation techniques. With help from the artistic team, the Director crafts a script and the Music Director creates original songs. The show is memorized, blocked and performed for the public. Each original production is designed to showcase each actor’s unique talents.

Skills/Qualifications
BA (desirable, but not required); Stage Management experience; Strong oral & written communication skills; Interpersonal & Organizational skills; Ability to work independently with initiative; Some knowledge of disability, accessibility, and inclusion practices; Experience and/or interest in working with persons with disabilities; Genuine desire to further develop your theatre experience; Passion for theatre and a belief in the power of the arts.

Salary
This is a contract position. We pay competitively.

Commitment
The start date varies upon location. Each Inclusive Company rehearses for 6 months, once a week in the evening for 1.5-2 hours up until tech week. During Tech Week, the commitment is every evening Mon-Fri plus scheduled Load In, Performances and Strike. We expect all SMs to be present for each contracted rehearsal and arrive early/stay slightly afterwards, for any needed set-up and tear-down. SMs are also required to attend production meetings as stated in contract.

How to Apply
Please email a cover letter explaining why you want to work with ArtStream and a work résumé to Jennie Lutz at jobs@art- stream.org. Applicants will be contacted for interviews on a rolling basis. We plan on making final decisions by Sept 2014.

If you have any questions, please email jobs@art-stream.org or visit our website: www.art-stream.org.
