New and Excited
« on: Mar 14, 2016, 10:34 am »
Hi everyone! I'm a senior in college in NYC and I'm a Computer Science major. CS? Why am I here? I'll explain.

I've always been a fan of theatre and worked in tech in my high school drama club. Freshman year at school I joined a theatre group (non-theatre majors only) that I've been part of ever since. Last spring (my junior year), when the shows for the next year (this year) were announced, it just hit me that I wanted to stage manage one of them. I don't remember what prompted that thought, but I knew it was something I genuinely wanted to do.
Neither of the shows this past fall had open applications to stage manage. This spring, the club announced it was accepting applications to SM for the next show so I applied for it, got interviewed... and then rejected. Fortunately for me, the other week they opened applications to SM their last show too! And I got the position. I'm a co-SM and rehearsals start this week.

I realized I wanted to SM in a professional capacity between applying to work on the two shows this spring. I've begun to apply for SM internships/apprenticeships and I know that not being a theatre major puts me at a disadvantage, but I’m hopeful and excited to see what I’ll find!

Congrats on the gig, and best wishes on a successful rehearsal process. This forum is a wealth of experience and knowledge that I've found very useful. Feel free to ask questions, and let us know how your show goes.
