Here to Learn!
« on: Jan 17, 2014, 03:27 am »
My name is Christian Clark, and I am a sophomore theatre major at the University of Kentucky. I'm just another student trying his hand at a new skill. I specialize in performance, however, stage management is the aspect of theatre that appeals to me the most outside of performance. I look forward to learning from those of you with experience and collaborating with anyone and everyone as I cultivate this new skill! Don't be shy, folks!

Hey Christian,
Welcome aboard! It's always nice knowing that performers are interested in stage management, it's rare to find these days!

Hi Christian! I'm an '12 Graduate of UK.  It's good to meet another person who bleeds blue!  Let me know if you ever need anything or want to chat.

Heyo Christian, welcome to the community!

The best performers that I can recall from my SM career had all done time backstage. Even if they hated it, it still gave them a better sense of the whole picture. In fact, I started out wanting to be a director and over the course of learning what was involved in conceptual development I wound up learning that SM was better suited to me! Who knows, maybe the same will happen for you.

Have you had a chance to sample SM tasks both in rehearsal and performance yet?

Sorry for the delayed reply! I didn't realize SMNetwork doesn't notify you via email of replies. The only real SM work I've done was on a student-run studio show, and it was too small/informal for me to consider it a full-on SM gig. So, I'm basically totally green. I am, however, taking a stage management class.

Also, thanks to everyone for the welcome wishes!

I think there's a setting somewhere that activates this feature. Kay?

Click the "notify" button that's located at the top and bottom of each thread.

You can activate email notification for all of your posts in your Profile, under "notifications." This is turned off by default since many members consider these notifications to be spammy.

Or if you prefer, you can turn it on for individual threads by following kmc's instructions above.

Returning to topic, have you tried any of the other backstage tasks like design, electrics or deck work?
