Any other Brits around?
« on: Jul 18, 2013, 08:59 am »
Hi everyone,

I'm Kate, an aspiring stage manager, based in Kent. I just graduated in music management and event management from Bucks New Uni, which I don't feel gave me a lot of practical experience, and hardly anything in regards to theatre.

I've been a production assistant on an amateur production of Equus (weirdly fun) and an ASM of a professional production of  '25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee' (so wonderful) as well as interning in the office of a local charity theatre.

I'm looking to use this website to learn more about being a stage manager, what types of productions people work on and what other wonderful people there are out there interested in this work!

Hi Kate - welcome!

I'm also in the UK - London based, but currently spending two weeks on an opera festival in a school in Dorset!

Hello and welcome to SMNetwork, Kate.  Be sure to head over to our Regional board Europe & UK to connect with some of our UK based stage managers.  Hope you find the forum to be a useful resource.

Awesome is one way to put it! Very bizarre as well though - first rehearsal was last Saturday, and tonight was our first piano dress! Absolutely manic schedule, and it's my first year, so I was a little unprepared for the foibles of this festival! Having said all that, loving it so far!

Hi Kate!

Welcome to the boards! I am half Brit, as in my partner is and we spend  a lot of the year in Windsor (cough cough: all my unemployed time). I haven't yet started working there for all kinds of visa and tax reasons but maybe in the future I will.

I hope you find lots of useful information here!
