job this summer....
« on: May 30, 2007, 07:17 pm »

So last summer I was really lucky to work in new york city as an ASM and crew member. The stage manager I worked was awesome and taught me a lot, since I am in the middle of getting my undergraduate degree.

Does anyone know how ASMing works on a show that is on broadway. I am trying to use my connections and network to possibly do just that? Who to contact? The person who I know is within my network told me to check the listings. I do, or at least some listings and nothing like ever shows up. Do the ASMs stay with the show forever? Don't they ever want a break to breathe or for vacation?

I am open to any thoughts. I will do any job but this one is one I would love to do now at this point in my life, I have all the skills, punctuality and charisma to take on this challenge or job.

Thanks. No I am not AEA. Although with a little fiasco last summer I kind of wish i was  -- it would have made things easier. Anyways, my background is: Performing since the age of 4 for mostly school plays, and dance shows at local studios then broaden to local companies for  students not actual big company shows. Then started stage managing freshman year of high school at a local theatre for student productions, stage managed for a high school show, I have already stage managed a professional dance company now, ASMed a lot in my two years so far of college, as well as stage managing two one acts and one short play. I got the opportunity of being on crew for a NY international fringe festival show, and ASMing for a equity showcase new play show in New York. I am based in Northern California, but in Bellingham, WA for 9 months out of the year.

The stage manager I worked with who worked for rent and has friends told me to look at listings.....Does that mean anything? I am assuming not but maybe I am wrong.

Do you know if there is a chance? Who to contact at least to just give them my resume?

The old fashioned way would be go door to door at the theatres and drop off your resume.
