Advice on my resume
« on: Nov 14, 2007, 05:34 pm »
Just asking...but would someone take a lok at my resume and tell me what I can do to improve?

A few things,
Proper show names(ex. The Music Man)
no abbreviations for venues(ex. Tuachan)
try to remain consistent with month names(November or Nov, but not both)

You might want to add an email address.
(get a generic one that's not in any way embarrassing or unprofessional)

I attached a copy that I revised to illustrate some of my above points.

That looks cleaner and generally easier to understand.
You need to be careful with job titles, a theatre manager and a stage manager are not the same thing.

Looks much better.  Still check your spellings (things like "skills, recommendations, etc).  Don't use abbreviations like UNLV.  List what schools your degrees are from.

Other than that it is night and day different.  Great job!!

And don't forget, when you save the file, use your first and last name.  For example

Jane Doe Resume Nov 07

Production Managers may or may not actually print out your resume, but that way they can always identify what it is and when they received it.

I would say your next step is to play with formatting.  See how your columns line up from section to section.  Play with it until you find the most pleasing (or easy to follow) design.  Most people are going to read each line of your resume, so find a way to draw the eye to the areas you want.  Negative space is a great tool, don't neglect it.
