SOCIAL, Round 2: Twitter vs. Tumblr
« on: Dec 04, 2014, 12:19 am »
In the continuing battle for the Social division, our next match features two strong up-and-comers!

We've got Twitter, the 140-character thought-machine that seems to be everywhere! Light on its feet, it's a strong contender among the theatre community. Find out about job postings, keep track of what's going on at your favorite theatre, keep an eye out for papered houses, and keep in touch with your colleagues via this more casual approach to professional networking.

On the other hand we have Tumblr, the microblogging platform with a strong visual component. Share your thoughts with the world on your custom Tumblr site. Tag your posts and be a part of the larger theatrical conversation. Is this newly popular site strong enough to knock out the hashtag king?

The winner of this match faces off against a very strong Team Facebook!

Vote! Poll remains open through midnight at the end of December 7, EST.

I don't use Twitter and I do use Tumblr. I still voted Twitter.
Is Tumblr useful for anything but wasting time?

I voted Twitter... BUT, I feel like I need to throw in a good word for tumblr. There's a growing community of SMs (mostly young, hs/college age), and I also have worked with several dramaturges (and one playwright!) who set up tumblrs to track design inspiration, reviews, etc for the show.
You will have to sing for your supper & your mortgage, your dental coverage & your children's shoes, over & over again while people in desk jobs roll their eyes the minute you start to complain. So it's a good thing you like to sing.

I have to say that based on the stats a huge number of new SMNet members can be attributed to just a few mentions on Tumblr. I haven't seen that kind of influx from any other source in recent memory.

SMblr is coming like the oncoming storm.
Be warned. The community is strong.

There is actually a large network on Tumblr that we refer to as "SMblr". I actually found my last 3 jobs through this network.

I'm glad I saw this when I did. Twitter didn't stand a chance and Facebook's going down.

VIVA LA SMBLR!

I hope you guys continue to come out for the other matches. However, if you want to mark your calendar for the Facebook/Tumblr showdown, the match will run from 12/15 through 12/17.

EDIT: Also, props to the "SMblr" brigade for our best day for new member registrations in over a year. Hope all 8 of you have fun around here.

Yeah, we'll stick around. I cast my vote for Excel Vs. PDF and possibly for more match ups. I'm unfamiliar with some of the other resources, but I'm excited to learn more about them.
