Just finished a show that we did not have coms for. Cell phone coverage failed on a regular basis. Guess which device has my vote?  ;)

So what on_headset is telling us is they commit the cardinal sin of headset use and press the talk button prior to screaming hold.
The cardinal sin of sitting in a soundpoof booth a few dozen meters away from the actor who's about to get squashed? (In a house where, I might add, cellphones don't work anyway.)

But again, wouldn't a god mic be more useful then? What happens if someone is off headset? You can tell them hold all you want. For the example you're giving, a god mic is the best tool. It's a direct line to the sm and it goes through the sound system.

Now, I may be misunderstanding how your set up works. Headsets can tie into the sound system i realize that. But if you're calling hold through a relay of people, that's not exactly a plus.
If the question were "cellphone vs. headset vs. A Good Microphone", you might have a point.

But my point still stands: there is a better tool to accomplish holds than the headset.

Also, how much time do you spend in rehearsals where cell phones are more useful vs in the theater when you'd be using a headset?

You know what?

No. I'm really not cool with being repeatedly told that I'm incompetent. I'm done here.

I'm sorry, I'm just playing the game of advocating for my tool. I did not mean to become a tool. I'm sorry and I won't do it anymore.

Exactly what I was thinking. God Mikes may be God Like in some stalls but they didnt even make the starting gate in 2012. While we are at it why dont we drag radios into the discussion? No, headsets have been ahead of the field for decades for a reason. VOTE HEADSETS TODAY.

I do hope everyone can remember, that this is all in good fun - there is no right and wrong (except when the multi-tool is brought up, but I digress).

These conversations aren't about right opinions, correct answers, or anything like - it's a personal preference.

It's EXACTLY LIKE ROOTING FOR ALABAMA OR AUBURN.

It's fun to get emotional, but it's not personal . . . you aren't the cell phone nor the headset.

I hope we can continue to have emotional, passionate conversations about trivial matters, and realize at the end of the day - like how it's never just one person - it's about the assortment (the multi as one would say) of tools we have at our disposal.
